Two men mug cabbie on Pune-Satara Road, rob him of coins and cellphone

PUNE: Two unidentified guys threatened a cab motive force waiting for passengers on Satara Road in the early hours of Monday and robbed him of a cellular phone and coins, together worth Rs11,000. The cab driver, Suraj Iranna Shahabade (21), who lives in Solapur and Dhankawdi, has lodged a grievance with the Dattawadi police. Senior inspector of the Dattawadi police, Devidas Gheware, stated, “We have ascertained the robbers’ identity. They are criminals on the police file. We will soon arrest them.” A sub-inspector of the Dattawadi police, Kuldeep Sankpal, who was investigating the case, stated that the complainant, Shahabade, is pursuing a trade degree from a college in Solapur. “During the vacations, he had come to Pune and started operating as a motive force with a cab aggregator to assist his family,” Sankpal said.

Sankpal said that on Monday, around 4.30 am, Shahabade began to choose passengers close to Panchami eating place on Pune-Satara Road. “He had reached there on time, and he was waiting for the passengers while two men riding motorbikes on the wrong side of the road stopped near the cab,” he said. The guys allegedly threatened Shahabade and forced him to step out of the car. As quickly as he got down, the duo snatched his cellular phone and Rs830 from his pockets, all collectively worth Rs11,000. They later fled at the bike.
